Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here

"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside..."

Wish You Were Here is a happy history of swimwear, from the bracing bathing of the 18th Century to knitted costumes and kiss-me-quick hats, with lots of fun stories about beachwear and Butlins holidays.

We take a nostalgic trip through 200 years of seaside outfits. Regency ladies promenade at Scarborough in light cottons, but Victorian bathing belles keep their woolly stockings on. The twentieth century takes us through a colourful pageant of prints, puckers and Bri-nylon to the very latest in swimsuit technology.

And yes, we do have knitted swimming costumes! (And no, we do not demonstrate what happens when they get wet...)

"Congratulations on another excellent event!
It was lovely seeing you both in action and all the swimsuits on show"
